INFO

Introduction

The Hall of Memories (HoM) section of the Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum has been created by uploading the Albums that previously resided on our old web site (www.Kresy-Siberia.cpm/gallery), as well as by adding specific collections from Sybirak Associations in Poland, and private members.

Because the Hall of Memories was built by a mix of the old and the new, the elements found in the HoM will sometimes contain a fair bit of information, and other times will contain only very sketchy information.  This is a result of the fact that the Members Albums in the Old Gallery contained very limited information – usually just the Title, Description, and the name of the Contributor.  Conversely, new items have been added using a far more detailed online form that allowed for the addition of a considerable amount of information about each element.  It is our hope that information will be added over time and eventually all the elements will have a great deal more detail attached to them.

We also hope that registered visitors will add their private collections, and provide as much detail as possible to each element.

Entrance page for the Hall of Memories

When you click on the Hall of Memories in the header of the Virtual Museum, the entrance page of the Hall of Memories that is presented to you is the ALL ITEMS section.

ELEMENT VIEW

When you click on any item/element, you are sent to the ELEMENT VIEW page.  Here the thumbnail size image is enlarged, and you also have a ZOOM capability that allows you to see the image even closer.

In the area above the image, the PATH to that particular image is shown.  In other words, this path will define which contributor and which collection this particular element is attached to.

Directly below the image is the area where you can ZOOM, in order to enlarge the image for better viewing.  This area also contains a LIKE button, which allows you to link the image to your Facebook profile.  Clicking on the LIKE button opens a window where you can log into your Facebook account and post the image to your profile.

Below the zoom and the LIKE area, is the TITLE of the element, as well as a DESCRIPTION of it that has been entered by the contributor.

Then there is a FILMSTRIP which allows you to scroll through the collection, to the left or to the right, but clicking on the thumbnail images, or by clicking on the arrows on the right or the left of the filmstrip.

Below the filmstrip is a COMMENTS section when you can view all the comments that have been posted to this element, or add a comment of your own to any element (eg.  If you recognize a person in a photograph, or if you want to ask a question).

Note:  to add a comment, you must be a registered user and be logged in.

To the Right of the Image, you have an area where a variety of information defines the element even further.  This includes the answers to the questions:  WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, as well as the identification of the Contributor of the element.  Only those items that have been defined by the contributor will be visible in this section.

This area also provides visitors with another SEARCH option.  Visitors can choose to search for similar items to the one being viewed, by clicking on the box next to the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN information, and then selecting the SEARCH option (All of the above, or Any of the above) and clicking on SHOW SELECTED.

Below the search area, additional information about the element is displayed:  the author, the creation and modification dates, the copyright information, etc.  Again, only those details that have been defined by the contributor will be displayed.
