ORP Dragon after torpedo hit during D-Day landings

ORP Dragon was a light cruiser, commissioned to the Polish Navy between 15 January 1943 and 8 July 1944. In early 1944 she served on convoys to Murmansk. This photograph was taken after a re-fit in May 1944. In the early hours of 8th July, during the D-Day landings, Dragon was hit by a German torpedo. 37 Polish seamen were killed and the badly damaged ship was sunk as part of the breakwater protecting the British Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches.
