Autobiography of Władysław Zarczynski who survived German occupation and an ethnic cleansing campaign by Ukrainian Nationalists, UPA in Choromce, (gromada Włodzimierzec, gmina Włodzimierzec, powiat Sarny, woj. Wołyńskie parafia Włodzimierzec). He describes his childhood in Wołyn, the the Soviet and German occupations and the Wołyn Massacres. During 1943 Władysław and the residents of Poroda, Prurwa and Choromce organised a defence against UPA, building a stockade and ditch. They repelled three repeated attacks and were then deported by the Germans to Germany as forced labour. The autobiography also describes his post-war life in Newcastle, Australia.
