    Served as a Red Cross nurse in the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt) in 1942-43, then was sent to Scotland in 1943, where she worked as a nurse at Taimold (?) Castle - which had been converted to a hospital. There she learned that her brothers had been at Monte Cassino, and that both were killed in action - one on 22 July 1944, and the other on 24 Nov. 1944. One of them was awarded the Virtuti Militari.
