Mark Gigiera |
This is first picture we have of my father Mark Gigiera. It was taken in 1944, probably in Scotland where he had been sent to, to recover from serious war injuries. Mark was 21. |

Mieczyslaw Gigiera in the army, possibly Middle East |
My guess is that this is the first picture ever taken of Mieczyslaw Gigiera in 1942. From his attire and the tent, my guess is that this was taken in the Middle East where he was undergoing training in preparation for the war in Italy. He was just 21 years old. |

Mieczyslaw Gigiera, Statement of his treatment in Soviet prison. |
In Teheran in August 1942 a Documentation Office was set up to take statements from all those who had been through the Soviet Prisons and Goulag camps. This hand written note appears to be a statement from Mieczyslaw, in his own words (but probably not written by him), that Mieczyslaw gave at the time. See other photo for translation. Mieczyslaw is on the List of the Repressed. |
