My father Mieczyslaw Matulewicz in Polish military uniform

Description:

My Father was born in Wilno on May 1st 1916 son of Michal and Stephania and baptised in the church adjoining Matka Boska Ostrabramska. Prior to the war he worked in 'Vitram' glass works in Wilno as an apprentice glassblower. He was the youngest but one of 12 children (5 of whom survived to adulthood.)

Wishing to see action Jan transferred to the Polish Navy in 1941. He served on ORP Krakowiak, and MGBs as a mechanic during WW2.

After the fall of France Jan joined the RAF in the UK as a mechanic servicing Hurricane fighters. Wishing to see action Jan transferred to the Polish Navy in 1941. He served on ORP Krakowiak, and MGBs as a mechanic during WW2.

In September 1939, Kazimierz Sadowski was serving as the torpedo officer on submarine ORP Zbik and was interned in Sweden for the duration of the war (together with submarines ORP Sep and ORP Rys).
