Description: He was saved from being sent to Katyn with the other officers because a soldier he had known in Zakopane came up to him and told him to remove the officer stripes from his uniform and blend in with the regular soldiers in the back.

Prisoner of War of Soviets, 19, 09, 1939, ,Cała szkoła wojskowa maszerowała w ciągu dwóch dni, bez jedzenia, do Równego. Stamtąd, 2 tygodni podróż do Krzywy Róg do pracy w kopalniach i łamanie kamień. Zostali później przeniesieni do Kotłasu w Republiki Komi, gdzie pracowali na budowie linii kolejowej. / The entire military school were marched over two days, without food, to Równe. From there, 2 week journey to Krzywy Róg to work in the mines and breaking rocks. They were later moved to Cibiu passed Kotlas in the Komi Republic, where they worked on building the railway.
