Gallery – Western exiles’ dilemma
At a DP barracks in Germany
Description:
Polish refugees who had been taken from their homes to toil in Germany for the Third Reich pose at a barracks in happier times following liberation. This photo was probably taken in 1946 or 1947. The precise location is unknown but it is likely at a camp near Hannover. Józefa Jurek is just to the right of the middle, in a high-knecked dark dress.
