1946 – Polish Navy victory parade in Plymouth |
The official victory parade in London in 1946 did NOT include the Polish Forces - for fear of offending their ally Stalin, the British Government did not invite Poland to participate in the parade. At the official victory parade in Plymouth, where the Polish Navy Southern Command was HQ'd during WW2, the Royal Navy DID invite the Polish Navy to participate. |

On August 30th 1939, on the eve of WW2, 3 Polish destroyers ORP Blyskawica, ORP Grom and ORP Burza were ordered to sail for G.B. This photograph is of the 3 destroyers when they arrived in UK in 1939 and went onto serve with the Allies under RN High Command. |

On the 30th August 1939, on the eve of WW2, 3 Polish destroyers ORP Blyskawica, Grom and Burza were ordered to escape the Baltic and get to the UK. They arrived in Leith, Scotland and shortly after were sent to Plymouth where they became operational under the overall command of RN. In September 1939 the First Sea Lord, Winston Churchill paid a visit to Devonport to inspect the crew of the Polish destroyers in order to raise morale - here seen inspecting the crew of ORP Burza at that time under the command of Nahorski. |

ORP Burza was one of the 3 Polish destroyers to escape the Baltic on the 30th August 1939 for the UK. The 3 Polish ships Burza, Blyskawica and Grom all took part in the Norwegian campaign during April-May 1940. This photograph of Burza is possible during the Narvik campaign. The photograph is in the collection of Commander Nahorski, who during the Norwegian campaign was the commander of ORP Blyskawica. |

ORP Balytk was a Polish vessel moored off the Devonport naval base on the River Tamar. Later a land base, with the same name, was used for training at the Okehampton rugby club. Later it became a demobilisation and resettlement camp for Polish naval personnel. This photograph is possibly Captain Nahorski inspecting sailors. |
