IMG 5562 Part of a message from Ks Obuchowski describing the scene, "Today the locality is small because after 1946 all those forcefully resettled had been given amnesty. Thus, Poles, Germans, Lithuanian, etc. left, and the Russians themselves looked for better opportunities and places to work. Today it's a small village where there are almost no old people..."

IMG 5580 Continuing message from Ks Obuchowski, "From those who do live here I was able to find out that there used to be a cemetery behind the village and bordering the forest. During the building of a dam part of it got covered by water and bodies washed out. It is difficult to tell how many there were -maybe l/4. The present cemetery does not have a catholic section, there are only a few graves with crosses in the centre. Others fell to ruins or are overgrown with shrubs and bushes. Only those who remember well where they buried their loved ones (under or between trees) would be able to recognize the traces of graves. At present it's rather impossible..."

IMG 5585 Another message... "I am happy that I was able to help in this matter. The road wasn't too long, but through taiga and loose gravel it took me 3 hours one way. I had trouble with my car which has been playing up lately. Luckily it broke down in Bijsk, approximately 1Km from home. The bad thing is that I have to use it to visit another cemetery 300Kms away, but nobody can find out what's wrong with the car. Nonetheless the trip was interesting - beautiful taiga and lakes all around."

Barnaul - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan. My cousin Bronislaw Fedzin told me the family passed through Rubtsovsk, Semey(Semipalatinsk) and Qyzylorda on the way to Uzbekistan. The promised accommodation could not be provided and after a month they were given permits to go to Bishkek(Frunze) in Kyrgysztan. Here an uncle was captured by the NKVD and conscripted to the Red Army under Berling and sent to the front. The family then fled the NKVD and hid with a native family in Shu, Kazakhstan, until 1946.
