Janek Czarnota 1938
Janek Czarnota served in the Polish Airforce. This postcard of him in uniform during National Service with a Polish fighter plane was taken in 1938. In the Sept 1939 campaign he was interned in Rumania but escaped to Yugoslavia and then to Greece. He was then taken by the Polish merchant vessel "Warszawa" to France. After the fall of France Jan joined the RAF in the UK as a mechanic servicing Hurricane fighters. Wishing to see action Jan transferred to the Polish Navy in 1941. He served on ORP Krakowiak, and MGBs as a mechanic during WW2.
