Polish soldier and camelier with camels 1942. This photograph comes from the collection of Zygmunt Pracki, and his journey in modern day Turkmenistan en route with the Polish Army from Kazakhstan to Krasnovodsk. The journey took him through the Kara-Kum desert.

Alexandra as a toddler, held by her mother Maria Pracki. Alexandra's father, Zygmunt Pracki, has written on the back of the photograph "Pahlevi 28th March 1942... First steps beyond the border" so this was the date of their arrival, in one of the first evacuations.
