- Description: Józefa Sołtys married Józef Szpetnar and they had a son Franciszek who was born on 30 October 1939. The Szpetnar family were deported from their farm in Bobiatyń, Tartaków, Sokal, Lwowskie in 1940. Józefa sadly died in a train accident (possibly whilst still in Russia) after going to collect some hot water to bathe. Franciszek who was a toddler at the time. After "amnesty" Józef joined the Polish Army in Russia on 3 March 1942 and went on to be awarded amongst other medals the "Italy Star". His son Franciszek was in the orphanage in Iran and then went on to New Zealand with the Pahiatua children and was one of the youngest children at Pahiatua camp. After the war Józef located Franciszek in New Zealand and in 1946 came to join him. When Józef first arrived he worked in forestry and on the wharf in Wellington and would visit Franciszek at Pahiatua Camp. When he settled and found a permanent place in Wellington Franciszek went to live with him. Franciszek went on to work as a tram driver for the City Council and then as a Senior Inspector for Stagecoach. He married the beloved Lyndsay Mary and they had three children, Bronek, Teressa and Damien. Franciszek is now retired and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.
