Description:

Józef Pyka was in the Polish navy during WW2 and and joined in 1937. He served on ORP Blyskawica from 02.09.1939 until 08.09.1942, ORP Garland from 09.09.1942 until 07.11.1942, ORP Orkan from 18.11.1942 until 14.02.1943, ORP Dzik from 12.10.1943 until 28.10.1943 and ORP Sokol from 29.10.1943 until 27.05.1944. In between these times he was stationed at naval barracks and camps, and in 1946 he served on the ORP Blyskawica again from 29.03.1946, then ORP Slazak from 27.06.1946 and HMS Berry Head in Sheerness as Polish naval detachment. Discharged honourably 07.09.1948. He won Polish medals: Cross for Valour, Sea medal and two bars. He won British metals: 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Italy Star and The War Medal 1939-45.
