Description: Franciszek was born just after the outbreak of war in Kol Bobiatyń, Tartaków, Sokal, Lwowskie. Franciszek's mother sadly died in a train accident (possibly whilst still in Russia) after going to collect some hot water to bathe Franciszek who was a toddler at the time. Franciszek's father Józef joined the Polish 2nd Corps in Russia on 3 March 1942 and went on to be a recipient of the "Italy Star" amongst other medal. Franciszek went on to the orphanage in Iran then on to New Zealand with the Pahiatua children. He was one of the youngest children at Pahiatua camp. After the war Franciszek's father located him in New Zealand and in 1946 came to join him. When Józef first arrived he worked in forestry and on the wharf in Wellington and would visit Franciszek at Pahiatua Camp. When he settled and found a permanent place in Wellington Franciszek went to live with him. Franciszek went on to work as a tram driver for the City Council and then as a Senior Inspector for Stagecoach. He married the beloved Lyndsay Mary and they had three children, Bronek, Teressa and Damien. Franciszek is now retired and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.
