Description: | Mieczyslaw carried the Title "Boncza"Came from a poor family, however as the 7th successive son of his parents, Mieczyslaw received financial and educational aid from the President - To be verified. For historical borderlands and the inter-war period, I do not have exact information, where he fought, his rank and battles etc, but according to my grandmother, he served in the Polish army in WW1, however due to a leg injury, he was not fit for duty anymore was given a position with the Police of the Polish 2nd Republic (PP). Apparently, he travelled a lot, and each child was born in a different town. Exact information is unknown, as all personal paperwork was confiscated/left behind when the family was forced from their home.Regarding outbreak of WW2, exact Information unknown, however according to my grandmother, he fled the town before the invasions, he would not tell his family where he was going as a safety precaution. He also told them to run away, to a small inconspicuous town, where they could hide. However, the soviets found them, and arrested his wife Jozefa, and interrogated her for 3 days, to try and find out the whereabouts of her husband. The 3 young children were left alone at home. After the third day, she was escorted back to her house, where she was instructed to pack her things (the soldier was kind enough to advise her to pack warm clothes). They were the only ones taken from the village. Mieczyslaw was apparently captured (In either Lithuania, or Latvia, unsure of which one) by the soviets. He was consequently tortured and his limbs were dislocated. He was then released, and he stayed on in Poland, but was unable to fend for himself, and was bed-ridden. Jozefa, while searching for Jerzy, also found Mieczyslaw and wrote to him. (This must have been around 1944 or so, while she was in Abercorn) He replied, via a nurse telling her that he would be unable to care for them anymore, and if they were able to that they should rather stay where they were. |
