Other Information: Deported with his parents and siblings: Jozef, Kazimierz, Stanislaw, and baby Boleslaw. His brother Kazimierz died of typhoid in Uzbekistan in March 1942, then the others also came down with typhoid, and their mother also died there. Stanislaw and his father Franciszek had joined the Polish Army. Ludwik was left with his brother Jozef and youngest brother Boleslaw was an infant who had barely started to walk. Ludwik and Boleslaw ended up in an orphanage, and evacuated from the USSR with the orphanage, while Jozef went to join the Polish Army. Ludwik was released from hospital just as the orphanage was being evacuated, but his infant brother Boleslaw remained behind in the hospital. It is not known if he survived or not, as the family never found any trace of him. He was too young to remember his name, so he may have been adopted by a Russian family, if he survived. Stanislaw was in the Second Corps (3DSK) in the Middle East. Jozef was in the Second Corps as well, but their father managed to get him released as he was only 17, and he joined the cadets, then went to the UK to train for the Air Force.
