Other Information: Arested by NKVD on the night of 29th April 1940 at 11.15pm. Detained and interrogated in the "Brygida" and subsequently "Zamarstynów" prisons. 10th December 1940 sentenced to 8 years hard labour in the Kolyma district of Siberia and deported to the Starobielsk prison camp in Russia in May 1941. Transported by train to Vladivostok, then via the Sea of Okhotsk to Magadan, arriving in Kolyma on 28th August 1941. Transported on foot from Magadan to camp "47 Kilometer". In the autumn of 1941, when the 'amnesty' was declared for Polish prisoners in the USSR, he was initially not released and was told his name was not on the list of those to be released. After confronting the camp commandant he identified his own name and was released on Boxing Day 1942. He subseqently worked to buy the ticktes and and made his way south to Uzbekistan to join the Army. He enlisted, and was evacuated to Persia (Iran) with the Army, then subsequently to Iraq, Palastine and Egypt.
